HWPL/IWPG activity (when switched on)

  • Small grey-blue square: HWPL or its affiliates have held events here. This doesn’t show an SCJ church.

Member figures are estimates, shown only as rough bands, and different sources may give different figures. The former leaders’ estimates match the regional totals in a published report by Ezra Kim in Hyundae Jonggyo (February 2024, in Korean): Hyundae Jonggyo report (opens in new tab). Some locations rest only on Shincheonji’s own reports; the tag on each one says so. A pin marks a place where activity is reported, not a confirmed address. This map covers locations outside South Korea. Tribe assignments may have changed over time.

SCJ’s own account Shincheonji says that from 2023 to 2026, whole congregations in several countries swapped their church signs for Shincheonji’s name. Its figures include 84 churches in 10 Ethiopian cities (Sept 2025), 103 overseas churches for its Peter tribe (Feb 2026), 69 in Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya (Sept 2024) and 33 in Uganda (2023). These figures are Shincheonji’s own claims, published by its Cheonji Ilbo newspaper or in press releases; no independent source has confirmed them, and this map does not show these churches as separate pins. Frequently asked questions

How many locations does the map show?

205 locations in 82 countries and territories outside South Korea. By source: 53 Verified, 90 SCJ’s own account, 14 Critics’ claim and 48 Former leaders’ estimate.

What do the tags mean?

Verified: An independent source (news report, government notice or research group) confirms Shincheonji activity here. SCJ’s own account: Only Shincheonji or its own media, such as Cheonji Ilbo, say so. Critics’ claim: Only critics, such as former-member or watchdog sites, say so. Former leaders’ estimate: Comes from former Shincheonji leaders' accounts, not yet confirmed by a published source.

What do the pin colours mean?

Pin colours show which of Shincheonji’s 12 tribes a location is reported under, in the tribe colours Shincheonji uses. A grey pin means no tribe is given. Tribe assignments may have changed over time.

Does a pin mark a church address?

No. A pin marks a place where activity is reported, not a confirmed address. Pins sit at city level, or inside the country for country-level reports, and the map shows no street addresses.

What is the HWPL/IWPG layer?

An optional layer, off by default, that shows places where HWPL or its affiliates have held events. An HWPL branch doesn’t by itself show an SCJ church at the same location.

Are the member figures exact?

No. Member figures are estimates, shown only as rough bands, and different sources may give different figures.

Is there Shincheonji in the US, UK, Canada or Australia?

Yes. The map shows 20 reported locations in the United States, 8 in the United Kingdom, 5 in Canada and 12 in Australia. Each pin is at city level and tagged by source. Open a country in the list below the map to see its cities.

How can I tell if a church or Bible study near me is Shincheonji?

Shincheonji groups often don’t use the Shincheonji name. Common warning signs include a free Bible study that asks you to keep it secret from family or your pastor, pressure to attend several times a week, and the study moving from a café to a “center.” Check the group’s name against our Shincheonji glossary of front groups and terms. Our guide to leaving Shincheonji covers these signs with sources. If you’re unsure, talk with us.

How is this map sourced and updated?

Every pin comes from a cited source and is tagged Verified, SCJ’s own account, critics or former leaders, so you can judge how strong each report is. We show cities only, never addresses. The map is updated when new reports are checked. The date at the top of the page shows the last change.

Bible Vaccine Center and Closer Look Initiative are run by the same team.
