What SCJ teaches

This section comes from class notes that an attendee wrote down during SCJ’s 9-month Bible study seminar, posted with the full Closer Look study. They are not SCJ’s printed curriculum, so the wording is the note-taker’s.

This lesson is different: the notes are a written test with a model answer under each question, so this section summarizes what the test asks and the answers it expects.

How the test works

The page is headed “Report – Discern” and states the rules: students must “score minimum 90%” to pass and should “Memorize all the answers word by word.” The test is framed as putting “The New Covenant We Must Keep” into action. It has 25 numbered questions, 26 to 50, and the answers run from Revelation 2 to Revelation 14. Most answers are a short phrase.

Questions 26 to 30: the letters and the one who overcomes

The test asks how those born of God’s seed and the devil’s seed differ. The answer: “Those who have been harvested and those who have not.” It asks why Jesus looks different at the two comings: “Physical body at the first coming, spiritual body at the second coming.” The betrayers and destroyers of Revelation 2 are “The chosen people of the seven churches, Nicolaitans.” Adultery means “Having a relationship with Satan, the groom.” Seven messengers, Nicolaitans and John are the three entities of the letters. The 12 blessings for the one who overcomes are listed, and the white stone is “authority to judge,” the iron scepter “authority to rule.” Revelation 12 is the chapter that shows what must be done, “By overcoming the group of the dragon.”

Questions 31 to 36: food, blood and the sealed

The food Jesus gives is “the hidden manna (Jesus’ blood and the fulfilled reality of Revelation).” The devil’s wine is “the serpent’s (Satan’s) doctrine.” The two pastors are “Jesus and his pastor, the devil and his pastor.” The new song is “Gospel of the fulfilled reality of Revelation.” Jesus’ blood applies to “The 12 tribes of the 144,000 and the multitude in white.” In Revelation 6, Jesus uses the four living creatures to judge “The chosen people, Israel, who betrayed.” The sealed are “Harvested from the harvest field.” Asked for the actual entities of God’s kingdom and priests, the key answers: “harvested and sealed Shincheonji 12 tribes family members.”

Questions 37 to 44: trumpets, horses and the two witnesses

The trumpets sound because “All the seals became opened, making the scroll opened and able to be read.” Those killed in Revelation 8 and 9 are “The chosen people who betrayed”; those who kill are “The pastors of the dragon who invaded.” The horses’ heads are “Rulers” and the tails “False prophets”; fire, smoke and sulfur are “Church laws and doctrines.” The open scroll is shown “To his messenger (New John).” The two witnesses die at “The first tabernacle,” and the city that collapsed is “The tabernacle that became the Gentiles.” The first six trumpets bring “Destruction of the chosen people”, the seventh “Destruction of the enemy, Babylon.”

Questions 45 to 50: the child and the beasts

The one who overcomes the dragon in Revelation 12 is “The child who will rule all nations, and his brothers.” The beast from the sea “Came out of the sea (world)”, while the beast “666” “Came out of the earth, the tabernacle.” Their actual entities are “The Tabernacle Temple and the Christian Stewardship Training Center.” The beast from the earth is figured by “Solomon,” sets up an image and makes “the congregation receive the mark of the beast.” The 144,000 come “From the harvest field.”

What the test assumes

Every answer takes earlier lessons’ identifications as settled: the named groups, the new John, the harvest and Shincheonji itself. There is no question that asks a student to compare an answer with the verse.

In SCJ’s own books

Each passage was checked against the scanned page image; page numbers are as printed.

The Physical Fulfillment of Revelation, Lee Man-hee (Shincheonji Press), page 39:

“Two thousand years ago, the disciples did not recognize Jesus after his resurrection, because Jesus did not have a physical form. Instead, Jesus had a spiritual transfigured body.”

Page 42 says the one who overcomes receives “the white stone (i.e., the authority to judge, Rv 2:17) and the iron scepter of authority to rule all nations”. Page 60 says:

“The white stone in Rv 2:17 is a symbol for the word of judgment, but of the many words of judgment in the Bible, it specifically refers to the new covenant made by Jesus in the New Testament.”

Page 314 says: “The number of the name of the beast coming from the earth is 666.”

How the lesson notes compare with the books

  • Jesus’ body. Same teaching. The key says “spiritual body at the second coming”; Physical Fulfillment p. 39 says Jesus “has a spiritual body rather than a physical body.” The book dates the change to the resurrection appearances.
  • The white stone. Difference. The key says “authority to judge”, as p. 42 does. Page 60 reads the stone as “the word of judgment,” which is the new covenant.
  • The beast 666. Same teaching. The key puts the number on the beast from the earth (p. 314).

What the Bible says

  • Jesus says after his resurrection that he has a body. Look at my hands and my feet; it’s me! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones like you see I have.” (Luke 24:39, NET)
  • Paul does speak of a spiritual body. it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. (1 Corinthians 15:44, NET)
  • John says Jesus’ sacrifice reaches beyond the believers he writes to. and he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world. (1 John 2:2, NET)
  • The sixth seal of Revelation 6 names a wide list of people. Then the kings of the earth, the very important people, the generals, the rich, the powerful, and everyone (Revelation 6:15, NET)
  • Revelation 11:8 gives a place for the two witnesses’ bodies. Their corpses will lie in the street of the great city that is symbolically called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was also crucified. (Revelation 11:8, NET)
  • Peter calls his readers a priesthood already. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9, NET)
  • Revelation 5 describes the people the Lamb’s blood bought. They were singing a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals because you were killed, and at the cost of your own blood you have purchased for God persons from every tribe, language, people, and nation. (Revelation 5:9, NET)

Where SCJ’s reading conflicts with the Bible

This is the second advanced-level test: questions 26 to 50, a 90% pass mark, and the instruction, “Memorize all the answers word by word.” The answer key restates the course’s identifications for Revelation 2 to 14. One answer goes beyond Revelation into the heart of the gospel: asked why Jesus looks different at his two comings, the key answers, “Physical body at the first coming, spiritual body at the second coming,” and SCJ’s book says that after the resurrection “Jesus did not have a physical form.” Here is what Scripture says about the key answers.

  1. 1. Jesus rose with a real body

The key (26.2) says Jesus had a “spiritual body at the second coming.” SCJ’s book says the disciples didn’t recognize the risen Jesus “because Jesus did not have a physical form” (Physical Fulfillment, p. 39).

    • The risen Jesus said: “Look at my hands and my feet; it’s me! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones like you see I have” (Luke 24:39). Then he ate fish in front of them (24:42-43).
    • He told Thomas: “Put your finger here, and examine my hands. Extend your hand and put it into my side” (John 20:27).
    • On the road to Emmaus, the disciples didn’t recognize him because “their eyes were kept from recognizing him” (Luke 24:16), and later “their eyes were opened” (24:31). It wasn’t that he had no body.
    • Paul’s “spiritual body” (1 Corinthians 15:44) is a body raised imperishable and empowered by God’s Spirit, not a body without substance. Jesus’ tomb was empty (Luke 24:3).
    • This matters: “if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless; you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:17). The same Jesus, in the body that rose, “will come back in the same way you saw him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). (See Lessons 78 and 100.)
  2. 2. Question 26: God’s children and the devil’s

    • The key says the difference is: “Those who have been harvested and those who have not.” John gives the actual test: “By this the children of God and the children of the devil are revealed: Everyone who does not practice righteousness—the one who does not love his fellow Christian—is not of God” (1 John 3:10).
  3. 3. Questions 27 to 30: The letters and the overcomer

    • The key defines adultery as “Having a relationship with Satan, the groom.” In Revelation 2:20-22 and Numbers 25, it includes real sexual immorality, which Scripture warns against plainly (1 Corinthians 6:18). (See Lesson 102.)
    • The white stone and iron rod are promised to “the one who conquers” in each church (2:17, 26-27). The rod is Jesus’, received from his Father (2:27-28; Psalm 2:9), shared with every overcomer. (See Lesson 118.)
    • The one who overcomes is “the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:5). (See Lesson 45.)
  4. 4. Questions 31 to 32: The food and the two pastors

    • The key says the hidden manna is “Jesus’ blood and the fulfilled reality of Revelation.” Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. The one who comes to me will never go hungry” (John 6:35).
    • The key pairs “Jesus and his pastor” against “the devil and his pastor.” Scripture never pairs Jesus with a human pastor this way. There is “one intermediary between God and humanity, Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5).
  5. 5. Question 33: Who the blood is for

    • The key: “The 12 tribes of the 144,000 and the multitude in white.”
    • “he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world” (1 John 2:2). The Lamb’s blood purchased people “from every tribe, language, people, and nation” (Revelation 5:9).
  6. 6. Question 34: The judgment of Revelation 6

    • The key: “The chosen people, Israel, who betrayed.”
    • At the sixth seal, “the kings of the earth, the very important people, the generals, the rich, the powerful, and everyone, slave and free” hide “from the wrath of the Lamb” (6:15-16). It’s universal. (See Lessons 107 and 108.)
  7. 7. Question 36: The kingdom and priests

    • The key: “harvested and sealed Shincheonji 12 tribes family members.”
    • Jesus “has appointed us as a kingdom, as priests” (Revelation 1:6), written to first-century churches. “you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9). (See Lessons 100 and 109.)
  8. 8. Questions 37 to 43: Trumpets and horses

    • The trumpets are blown by angels (8:6-7; 11:15). (See Lessons 48 and 112.)
    • Those harmed in chapter 9 are “those people who did not have the seal of God on their forehead” (9:4), and the survivors keep worshiping idols and committing murders (9:20-21). The key’s answer, “The chosen people who betrayed,” doesn’t fit them. (See Lesson 115.)
    • The key’s answers for fire, smoke and sulfur (“Church laws and doctrines”) and for heads and tails (“Rulers” and “False prophets”) aren’t in the text. Revelation 9:19 says “the power of the horses resides in their mouths and in their tails.”
  9. 9. Questions 44.1 to 44.3: The two witnesses

    • The key says they die at “The first tabernacle.” Revelation says “the great city … where their Lord was also crucified” (11:8). Jesus wasn’t crucified at a church in Gwacheon.
    • Both witnesses are raised and “went up to heaven in a cloud while their enemies stared at them” (11:12). (See Lesson 117.)
  10. 10. Question 45: Who overcomes the dragon

    • The key: “The child who will rule all nations, and his brothers.”
    • “Michael and his angels fought against the dragon” (12:7). The child was already “caught up to God and to his throne” (12:5). “they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” (12:11). (See Lesson 118.)
  11. 11. Questions 46 to 49: The beasts

    • The key names the beasts’ actual entities as the Tabernacle Temple and a Korean training center.
    • Revelation explains the heads and horns as kings (17:9-12), and Daniel says such beasts represent kings (Daniel 7:17). The beast rules “every tribe, people, language, and nation” (13:7). (See Lesson 119.)
  12. 12. Question 50: Where the 144,000 come from

    • The key: “From the harvest field.”
    • Revelation: they “had been redeemed from the earth” (14:3), “redeemed from humanity as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb” (14:4). (See Lesson 120.)
  13. 13. A test without a check

    • Every question has one fixed answer, and none asks students to compare the answer with the verse. A careful reader of the passages above would lose points for giving what Revelation actually says. (See Lessons 93 and 114.)

What the test is really for

This test locks in the course’s identifications before the final chapters:

  • Jesus returns in a spiritual body, without physical form.
  • The blood, the kingdom and the priesthood belong to SCJ’s 12 tribes.
  • Revelation’s beasts, witnesses and battles all happened in one Korean church.

The biblical answer: the risen Jesus has “flesh and bones” (Luke 24:39), and the same Jesus will return as he left (Acts 1:11). His sacrifice is for “the whole world” (1 John 2:2). His people are already a kingdom and priests (Revelation 1:6). And the judgments of Revelation reach “everyone, slave and free” (6:15).

What’s happening behind the lesson

These notes are our reading of the lesson text, using Steven Hassan’s BITE model (behavior, information, thought and emotional control). They describe what the text does, not the teacher’s intent. Hassan notes that not every group uses every item. Source: Steven Hassan, BITE Model, Freedom of Mind.

  • Behavior: can tie progress to exact recall. Students must “score minimum 90%” and “Memorize all the answers word by word.” Passing depends on matching the key, not on explaining it.
  • Information: can limit trust in other teaching (our reading). The key supplies the identity of each figure, such as “The Tabernacle Temple and the Christian Stewardship Training Center.” In our reading, a student who answers from a different source is marked wrong.
  • Thought: can make one reading the only acceptable answer. Each question has one model answer, and the same chain of answers repeats: “The chosen people who betrayed,” “The pastors of the dragon who invaded.”
  • Emotional: can add pressure through a pass mark. The rule is stated at the top: “score minimum 90%” to pass, before any question is read.

Asking students to review what they learned, as this test does, is not a control technique in itself.
